The Lord is With You

One of the stories I love most in the Bible is the story of Gideon. In Judges 6-8, we see a young Israelite faced with the enormous task of fighting the Midianite army.

Gideon had fear and doubts, just like most of us do when confronted with a seemingly impossible situation. God, whose name is El Roi—The Lord who sees, saw that this young man was fearful. He, therefore, sent a reassuring message to him. The messenger of God called Gideon “A mighty man of valor” and assured him that the Lord was with him.

Gideon saw himself as weak and insignificant; it was likely that others shared this view, underestimating his potential. He said unto the Lord, “Behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house,” demonstrating his doubts in his ability to save Israel (Judges 6:15 KJV). However, God’s perspective of him was totally different. God saw his strength and capabilities; he was nothing short of a great warrior in God’s eyes.

Beloved, it is easy to fall into the trap of how others perceive us and even how we see ourselves. We should also remember that the enemy will always want us to view the opposite of how God sees us. When the enemy calls you rejected, God says you are chosen. When he says you are weak, God says you are strong. When he says you are condemned, God says you are justified. Hallelujah!!!

The words of the Lord transformed Gideon’s perspective and bolstered him, giving him the courage to trust in God’s presence. Triumphantly, with a reduction from 32,000 soldiers to 300 men, per God’s instruction, he led the Israelites to a stunning victory over the Midianites. This buttresses David’s words in Psalm 33:16. When God is with you, one becomes many (Joshua 23:10).

As we journey through this year, remember Gideon’s story, see yourself the way your Father sees you, and hold onto His words that He is with you. David said, I know the Lord is always with me, I will not be shaken. Remember, He is God and not man. Man’s presence and relationship are seasonal; God’s presence is enduring and unwavering. Because He is with you, victory is sure!

Happy New Year, and may Grace be multiplied unto you
