The Ministry of Motherhood

Ministry is often associated with external service. However, motherhood is a sacred ministry within the walls of the home. It is a call to SERVE. This ministry is important because you are partnering with God in shaping eternal souls and, as a mother, you should embrace it with every fiber in your body.

The ministry of motherhood is a noble one. It requires selflessness, patience, resilience, and devotion. As a mother, your tasks may shift with the seasons, but your role never truly expires. In the bible, some great women put their heart and soul into it. They were ordinary women God chose to do extraordinary things in the lives of their children. These women with intentionality, poured into the lives of their children

First, Jochebed: Jochebed was the mother of Moses. She was also blessed with Aaron and Miriam. These three were great leaders in Israel. She was a woman filled with faith, devotion, and resilience. She demonstrated her faith when she put her son in an ark of bulrushes and placed it by the river, believing God would save him from Pharaoh’s decree to kill all newborn Hebrew boys. She was conversant with the promise of God to their forefathers to deliver His people This made her play her part in the larger story of God’s redemption and deliverance of His people. She trained Moses in the way of God; she also nurtured him in self-awareness and his individuality. After all, he was only in Pharaoh’s house, he did not belong to Pharaoh!

The Bible has this to say about Moses, just because a mother chose to be resilient and devoted.” By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompense of the reward. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible. “(‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭24‬-‭27‬ ‭KJV‬‬: https://bible.com/bible/1/heb.11.24-27.KJV). This passage gives us a glimpse into what Jochebed instilled in her son.

Another example is the mother of Timothy, Eunice. According to the Bible in Acts 16:1, Timothy’s father was Greek, an unbeliever. Despite his father’s cultural background, Timothy was raised with a strong foundation in the Jewish scriptures and faith. Paul had to testify” When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also “(‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬ ‭KJV‬‬: https://bible.com/bible/1/2ti.1.5.KJV).

This is a great example of how mothers can profoundly impact their children’s spiritual growth once they understand motherhood is ministry! Timothy’s grandmother and mother’s teachings had a lasting impact on his life. This empowered him to become a significant leader in the early church.

It is important for us as mothers to know that this ministry transcends the everyday tasks of childcare such as changing diapers, feeding, etc. The onus is on us to disciple our children. Our children are God’s special gift to us and when we show them the right path, by allowing God to mentor them through us, we enjoy divine peace because they begin to live a life devoid of chaos,” And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children “(‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭54‬:‭13‬ ‭KJV‬‬: https://bible.com/bible/1/isa.54.13.KJV). The rewards that come with this ministry are immeasurable!

I pray even as David prayed” That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; That our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace “(‭‭Psalm‬ ‭144‬:‭12‬ ‭KJV‬‬: https://bible.com/bible/1/psa.144.12.KJV).

May Grace be multiplied unto you in Jesus’ name.
