Who Do You Say I Am?

The modern world is saturated with information. Thanks to the internet, we can easily access vast amounts of data, even from the comfort of our homes. While information comes from human reasoning, studying, and enlightenment, there is revelation, which is a gift from God, and it is truth imparted to us by our father ,this brings transformative change in a believer’s life.

The Bible mentions a set of people who are “ever learning but never coming to the knowledge of the truth.” In other words, they are filled with information but lack illumination that leads to spiritual growth. This, beloved, is a dangerous place to be.

Our Lord Jesus Christ posed two questions to His disciples in Mathew 16:13-20. The first was “Who do men say I am?” This is about information. They replied “‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah…” reiterating what they had gathered from others.

The second question was “Who do you say I am?” Jesus wanted more than just external knowledge; He desired a response that demonstrated personal acquaintance—proof that they had been with him long enough to recognize his true identity. He wanted spiritual insight, not just mere head knowledge. In response to Jesus’s question, Peter declared “You are the Christ, son of the living God.” Jesus replied to Peter “flesh and blood have not revealed this to you, but my father in heaven.” This is divine insight!

Beloved, our confession of him must be based on a personal relationship. It is possible to memorize the scripture but not internalize its meaning. It is also possible to live on information without an iota of revelation. We must strive to move beyond superficial facts and pursue supernatural insights.

I believe this principle was in Paul’s heart when he prayed to “…know [Jesus], and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.” (Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬). In other words, when it comes to the power of His resurrection, he was simply saying; I want it to be more than a historical event; I want to live with a sense of purpose, and to understand that your resurrection power is at work in me. Additionally, when it comes to the fellowship of His suffering, I don’t want to simply sympathize with His pain; I want to empathize and share in it. We will be able to share our divine insight with others because we have experienced its redemptive power through revelation!

In conclusion, we must prioritize time with God by studying the scriptures to show ourselves approved unto Him. Spending time in communing with Him with a heightened expectation of receiving revelation. It is time for true believers to manifest who we truly are; those who know their God. We should ensure our connection with our Lord and savior transcends mere updates; it should be rooted in divine illumination.  Only then we can boldly answer Jesus’s question as Peter did: YOU ARE THE CHRIST, SON OF THE LIVING GOD.

May Grace be multiplied unto you
